What is bleed in printing?
Bleed is an extra margin extending beyond the trim line that prevents white edges after cutting. Standard bleed in offset printing is 3 mm on each side, and 5 mm for large format prints.
Why is bleed important?
Printing machines cannot cut with absolute precision. Thanks to bleed, even if the cut shifts by a fraction of a millimeter, the entire print surface remains covered — without unsightly white strips at the edges. Bleed is mandatory in professional printing of flyers, business cards, posters, and covers.
Safe zone — what is it?
The safe zone is an area 5 mm inward from the trim line. Important design elements — text, logos, QR codes — should be placed within this zone to avoid being cut off or appearing too close to the edge.
